Hello all,
I have been working for the last few weeks with a codebase and so far have the beginnings of, yes, my own RPI. I wanted gameplay elements similar to Armageddon, but also "new" and more liberated, so it would in fact probably be closer to Armageddon Reborn.
The genre is Post Apocalyptic High Fantasy Low Steampunk. I am still writing up a lot of the lore, as the code has taken priority over the lore, but so far the Account structure is in place, I have character applications coded out and my other coder is working on some core content. I also have a builder that is working with me, although I could use more of those.
To get a gist of the gameplay: I do want it to be player-driven, as long as the player actions fit in the world (i.e., no spaceships, electricity or something) but overall yes, players will be free to create clans and work together. The game will start out with 2-3 "clans" that will not hold everyone for long if I can get a playerbase, so it will be up to them to form coalitions beyond that. I and my staff will of course play with people to give them some direction starting out and to help reveal new content, etc. I want the first city to actually be built by players. It will start out as ruins, and I want the objective of the players to be to gather resources and actually build their home (cooperative play). But this sort of cooperation I figure will be short-lived, as people will want what they want and start turning on each other--this is how I want the "multiple cities" idea to spring up--but of course releases that will cause "spread" will have to come when there's enough players to actually spread.
I am currently running a blog on this: anwmud.wordpress.com and you can find details about my Profession system and a piece of lore or two there. I'm updating it fairly regularly.
I hope some folks here think this is an interesting concept and would be interested in playing! By the end of this month or the next I will have a demo ready that I will try to get 10+ people to come in and try and get a taste of the game. Safe to say it will be different than the MUDs we are used to as it's going to be built on something completely different.
