Man, I'd love to play a rogue drovian. Only magick role that interests me. Survivability seems tough. You either need to go ethereal to explore and can pop out at any given moment (as well as be revealed to anyone with detect eth) or trust that your body is going to be safe where it is when you send shadow.

It's that very vulnerability/requirement which helped drovians be the ones picked over elkrosians to be bumped from 5 to 4 karma when whiran was moved from 4 to 6.

They make for good spies and good explorers both, and with the right bribes and skills/spells and components, can outburgle any burglar.

1) Start in 'rinth. Whiran is preferable. 2) Kill every PC you see. There's usually only two or three putting around. 3) ? ? ? ? 4) Profit, and enjoy your new playground.

you might tear up a couple newbs but eventually an assassin with a poisoned blade and decent scan skill is going to get you.

Not just that, but whirans often forget that guardians are very much traceable back to them if anyone has seen what theirs is. It will get you hunted down and killed. I saw it happen 3 times to different whirans dropping guardians in the rinth while I was on staff. Don't do it. You're gonna have a bad time.

Also, there's a really easy way to fix Drovians. Simply de-componentize the ethereal spell and throw in a command to de-etherealize. I don't mind the components as much as the lack of a de-etherealize command. It just makes it a pain to use the spell, and then wait for it to wear off.

I think whirans are just unfair. Especially now that sorcs are gimped. Whirans are the new sorcs if you know what you're doing. The most ideal right along with Nilazi for sheer survivability aka mobilty.

A couple things to add: As legendary said, hunter is a good subguild in general, but especially for rogue mages. Desert nav can be invaluable at times, if you're going to be playing a rogue mage. And after you get all of your spells branched out, you should be able to kill some pretty big nasties, and being able to skin them will be great. (My last good Whiran used to hunt Meks and Horrors for fun, but I didn't have skinning so I let a LOT of coin fall through my fingers there.)
Also, the best advice I heard for managing nilazi marks was this; always have 2 of everything (so you have backups). Keep the backups in your portable hole, along with any that you won't need to access in a real hurry. The ones that you keep on your person should be for places that are useful to jump to often - your safe haven, wherever that is. ALSO, the ones you keep on your person should be imprinted on food. Food is much less likely to get inspected closely than an odd rock collection, and if you get jailed or something, you can plausibly destroy it by eating it.
Another good note specific to Elkrosians is that they are not effected by Storms in any way. They will always have infallible desert nav, and will always see 3 screens (unless it's dark out, to both.) This is also something to pay attention to, if you're trying to pass in a group that goes outdoors often. They'll wonder why you can spot things 3 screens away when they can only see two. So, study the weather command BEFORE going Elk.
Bitterflashback - your regen rate posting looks correct to me. I believe Rukkian's regen more quickly underground, but they are generally so slow it's not like a Krathi at noon, or an elk in a tremendous storm. Vivaduans, as far as I know, just have some decent passive regen all around, and don't necessarily have a power time. (I never play vivs.) Most mages (with the exception of Krathi's and drovs who are time-dependent) regen more quickly in the morning than in the afternoon. Even an elk sitting in a tremendous storm has sluggish regen past high sun, for some reason.
