Hello folks,
I count myself among the recently banned. I'd like to tell you how it came to that after playing on the game for half of my lifetime, give or take, but I honestly don't know. My impression was that they saw an opportunity to bullshit their way into getting rid of me, particularly since I went from liked to unliked when Nyr (who has some strange issue with me) joined staff. As an aside, I have it on authority of past staff that Nyr obsessively berated me and a handful of other players on immchat, something which is against staff policy.
After a series of emails in which I told them I'd basically be doing whatever they needed me to do, even if I didn't understand the reasons for some of the things they'd done, they told me that I was booted by unanimous decision of the Producers and that the decision would not be overturned. The ways in which they wanted me to improve were simply beyond the comprehension of my mind, even though I've had zero in-game incidents in ages. Adhira then wished me well and hoped that I'd find another outlet for my time, as my disability leaves me chronically in severe pain and largely unable to move without everything being carefully orchestrated. Of course, she knows I have no such alternative, so that's more BS.
Having effectively been told "go away forever" for no comprehensible reason after over a decade of quality content and licking their boots, here I am, among many of you who similarly understand. People I thought were my friends have slapped me in the face and left me to suffer. Sucks for me, but I don't have to hold back anymore.
As I was saying, I played for about half of my life. I experienced a lot of game history. I'm familiar with virtually all aspects of the game, have played all guilds save Tuluki templars as they used to exist, and every kind of magick-user. Every race save for mantis. I have maps, knowledge of locations, branch lists/incantations for all casters and most mundane classes. Plenty of secrets. In Anaiah's best tradition, I'm more than happy to share what I can answer. If their decision toward a decent guy is unanimous and merciless, then why not?

Sorry to hear what happened but happy to see you stepping up and joining with the rest of us. Gotta find some solidarity somewhere, eh? In any case, welcome aboard.

Soooo, what caused you to be banned? Or in other words, what did they say the final straw for them to ban you?

"I think that this last email (poster note: the one in which I noted the good things I had done or been trusted with over the years) does say it all. It seems we are at an impasse. We have tried to give you advice on what we think you could be doing to improve. We have set boundaries and guidelines that we have asked you to follow in order for us to be able to continue to work with you.
At the end of it all you still have no understanding of where we are coming from, and we have no idea how to convey what we need to, to make this relationship work.
I am sorry to inform you that at this point we feel that it is better for the game and for you that you no longer play Armageddon. Unfortunately this is a unanimous decision by the Producers and will not be overturned.
I wish you well with your health, and I hope that you find another outlet for your time. I'm sorry that Armageddon will not be able to help you with this.
regards"
On Edit: I should note that I have no idea what the Hell she's talking about throughout most of this email, which was the final one notifying me of my ban.

I believe you used to be staff, and I believe I know who you are.
I'm sorry I killed your character that one time.

The quoted email seems to suggest that the reason has to do with your roleplay not being good enough, which would be ridiculous as they've never banned people for being bad roleplayers; and Armageddon has been home to some of the worst roleplayers I've ever witnessed, people who were utterly incapable of performing to even the most basic standards of typing, fairness or behaving in-character. They never banned people for being bad at playing the game, at least not genuinely, but I can see Nyr using any imaginable excuse in getting rid of one of his irrationally chosen enemies. Welcome to the other side, shadycharacter. We're not all banned players, in fact most of us probably aren't, but what almost everyone in this community has in common is the fact that Nyr made the game untenable for us. As I've been saying, it's not the first time an unofficial Armageddon community springs up, but it certainly is the first time in the history of the RPI genre that one has formed on the basis of a single admin's dishonesty, incompetence and abuse of power. This isn't merely a place to share confidential information about the game itself - in fact I think that does the community a disservice and weakens the influence of this forum - but also a place where people can let everyone know just how vile and self-destructive the current administration is, knowing that most of Armageddon's flock will either read it themselves or hear about it from their friends. The GDB may pretend that this place doesn't exist, but almost everyone on Arm lurks here. Some people are trying out Black Sands, an RPI run by former Arm staff and with a very similar setting. Shadows of Isildur is also in full redevelopment and set to open for play again this year. Japheth is plugging away at the FutureMUD engine which, if/when finished, could revitalize the entire RPI genre. There's a life after Armageddon.

I believe you used to be staff, and I believe I know who you are. I'm sorry I killed your character that one time. I have never been staff (supposedly was almost picked once - how things change!) but it's very possible you've killed one or more of my characters. All is forgiven.

I have actually never received any complaints about the quality of my role-play or the use of the power I was sometimes entrusted with. The issue, from what I can discern, seems to be purely with *me* the player. It has been that way for a long time, but given my RL situation, I held on and took it. I'm not certain of why I tried so hard to appease them and repair things when, in the back of my head, it was obvious that this wasn't going to really ever happen. Black Sands and I didn't work out, but I did write some of their theme and I think their staff is a good bunch of people. That said, I'm always on the lookout for greener pastures, no matter the codebase. Just so long as there's role-play! I started to make a Dark Sun-esque game using RhostMUSH, but I lost my more advanced coder along the way to real life, which has caused obvious issues.

Well since you've basically outed yourself already on here, curious as to what characters you have played. I had to dig up some names; pain management does nothing for the memory. None of my characters ever achieved the sum of fame that the big legends did, but many did live a while and see interesting things. Elorek Sath: He was a reasonable, scholarly Allanaki templar who earned additional magick at least a couple of times. At that time, he had come into service alongside another templar named Mather. I had some normalcy with him before the big HRPT with the rains and then the volcano popped up. That was a trial by fire (no pun intended) because I was the only templar with his mind open, and therefore a focus of attention! Mather later died and I was the only PC templar in Allanak for some time. Once new replacements were found and settled in, I retired and earned a karma point for my efforts, one of the two taken from me for reasons never clearly explained. Elorek was fun, somewhat older, believed that the sword wasn't always the answer. Post-HRPT, half of his body was charred to jerky, which was interesting to RP. Lorgana, AKA Anagrol: This character was a Nilazi who lived in the slug caverns beyond the sewers, but had boltholes all over. She pretty much just liked to mess about in affairs and be a pain in the ass old woman. Visited Lyvrenxice time and again as a possessed corpse, during which time they chatted in said templar's argosy. Fun side note: possess an elementalist and you can use their magick, so Rukkians were her favorite for getting around before the body was used up! Anyway. Lorgana liked experimenting with possession and was trying to find a way to transfer both her spirit and her powers into a younger body. She later started on the path of becoming a quasi-elemental and had contact with Nilaz, but eventually ended up being killed by gith in an accident. Was a fun character. Dug up this kudos: "Spooky, not-quite-sane, entertaining, humorous, creepy as all hell, but oddly endearing. A great all-around character, hope to see more of this player's stuff!" Ashae: This character was a preserver who lived in a secret vault in Mal Krian. She achieved mastery, but in her early life, she had a PC teacher who eventually decided to head off beyond the Silt Sea. Generally a harmless person who knew she wasn't getting any younger and tried to do some good for the land. Stopped conflicts where she could, tended to damaged sections of land, confronted defilers, and kept contacts all over the place (from common visitors to templars and the like). I think some of them had an idea of where she lived, but nobody ever came to kill her. Maybe she was thought to be more helpful alive than dead! I actually received good staff notes on this character, complimenting my RP and longevity as a sorcerer. Was a mere three years ago, so as I said before, how things change. Forgotten: I can't remember this character's name, but she was a female human sorcerer who wore white. She found her way to desert elf territory via story means and ended up apprenticed to Shattered. I saw a good bit, knew a Vivaduan quasi-elemental whose transformation I witnessed, and was present for a genuine rainstorm at the Gem. Some of my more prominent memories. They lived with Shattered and her mate in the large Shield Wall cave. Fun PC. I came back to the game after a long time and was allowed to reclaim the PC, but I drank something poisoned and she died. Oops. Omoro: This was an interesting character. She was a Vivaduan dwarf who had lived in Undertuluk for her entire life, and was fairly respected. Her home down there was a room which required high strength in order to open the door. Reasonable thinker, but a tough little piss; never let it be said Vivaduans can't fight. When she went to the surface for the first time in search of a specific component, she was a bit stunned by the sight of Suk-Krath. Her search eventually led her through desert elf lands toward the Valley, but a pair of elves came after her in that narrow area connecting the two. That's where she died. She was the only dwarf I've had who actually achieved her focus and got a new one. Also received one of the nicest kudos I've ever been offered, from one of the elves who participated in her final battle: "I'd like to extend my thanks to you for the scene tonight. Needless to say, it was a heart pounding experience for my character throughout the events that transpired. I found your character to be convincing and real, not a walking skillset of a mage. I'd also like to extend my apologies for the context I failed to add. While speaking with you, my words were meant to be in Sirihish to, as I said, provide context as to -why- said event was happening. I apologize that I was only speaking in my character's native tongue, and promise to be more mindful of what I'm doing in the game in future exchanges/scenes. Again, thank you for playing a believable mage." Tarluk: He was a mul slave of House Winrothol. Habitually smoked a pipe and was generally a cool guy, though as always, there was that danger potential due to his species. Found some kudos for this guy, too: "I've had so much fun playing with this character Tarluk, the muscular, golden-skinned mul. What tangible personality. It's awesome." So, that's just a few among many, many characters over the years. Most weren't much, but some hit the mark. It was kind of fun to look back at the emails (I never delete anything!), to remember the PCs and see the kudos. They help me to remember that, yes, I really did do decently in spite of what I'm told.

this thread made me sad.
I've lost what ever shred of respect I had for the producers.
And some very childish part of me wants to find way to rekt some shit, permanently for them. Perhaps not the greatest of responses, but the sheer injustice of it all speaks to the Batman inside me... the Batman inside all of us.

That wouldn't solve anything, it would just spoil what little is going on in the game for the other players.
It's rather unfortunate that more and more of the games experienced and "worldly" players are being dismissed from the game. One wonders if the goal is to remove all of the old, experienced players outright, or at least the one's who aren't GDB sycophants. If there aren't any active players who remember how things once were, there is no one to let the new players know what they've missed out on.
It seems highly unlikely, but there does seem to be a trend.
