A friend of mine played a long lived Irofel and told me that after going through tons of old crap he found mention that the statues in the grasslands, when visited in the correct order, will allow you to become a defiler/Sorc. Anyone know if this is true or not? I've heard about this from more than one person OOC, fwiw, but I'm not sure if it still works if it ever did.

If it did work, I highly doubt that it was automated. When I was over the Tuluki nobility and templarate, there was a Jihaen that stumbled onto the one item I know of that bestows automatic sorcery, and the admin had me immediately move it to a place it was inaccessible because of what happened when someone else's pc stumbled onto it.

Re the statues in the grasslands giving you sorcery: No, it does not. The legend was that they were put there by the first of the Anyali tribes, as a tribute to their gods and to represent the gods in their protection of their land. It had nothing to do with sorcery.

The Highlord has been dead for some time.
There is a reason why the southern templarate does not do away with the gemmed. They don't get their power from the Highlord.
Stew on that, if you will.

Any powerful enough sorcerer who defiles gets closer and closer to becoming a dragon. Just like any powerful enough sorcerer who preserves gets closer and closer to being an avangion. So... perhaps Tektolnes illegitimate daughter with the rune etched copper hand, one of the jade robed templars. Or maybe one of the black robed templars. It could also have been an illusion. And it could well have been someone you'd never see coming - his father. Because, hilariously enough, his father is alive, but he is not. Make of that what you will.

Testicular cancer I assume.
Actually I dunno, now though I know that... some things make a tiny bit more sense.
Particularly why the Templar's tolerate or even have the Gemmed
I wonder who is really running the show in Allanak now? Although according some of what was written during the ARM 2 stuff made me feel Tek wasn't particular active in the affairs of his city at all.
Which make sense, some one that powerful would be too far removed to really give a damn.

From what I understand, and this isn't written anywhere that I know of, but from what I was made to understand, it's Daddy Tek, Quintus, and he worked with the 4 black robes together to help overthrow the Highlord.

I've always suspected this since reading that one log in the submissions where a Ruk elemental refers to Tektolnes as "The Rotting King" or somesuch.

Seems about right. That's part of the reason it never made sense to me the way PC templars seem to treat them. They get all that unlimited mana by using the gemmed like mana batteries. That is the 2-way connection between their medallions and the gem that allows them to 'slap' the gemmed. It drains their what would be excess mana as well.
