From what I remember kanks were infected by a plague that slowly killed them off. This was during the time when staff was trying to move away from Dark Sun themes so as to avoid getting sued into oblivion by WotC.

There was approximately zero documentation about him that I've ever read. That is.... Thoroughly disappointing. :/ Moving on.... Since you got me stuck on mounts. I wanna horse. >:c .... Where does one get horses? Or is it pretty much a "heh, ur a noble lemme load that up for u" sort of thing? Also! Aurochs.... Or gnu-- where do these critters come from? I've owned them a time or three (got 'em from other PCs) but I've never quite found out where they came from. D: They're not the best mounts (Except maybe for the aurochs. I remember that saucy bastard resting up fucking ridiculously fast), but I do really hate that all you see anymore are beetles and inix. Horses: There are Tuluki warhorses, I've seen only one and it was massively scarred, but I would assume that the breeding house up there breeds them. I can't even remember. Ah, Uaptal. I've never seen any wild horses in game, so I would say you likely won't ever get one unless you have an Uaptal noble, a Tuluki Templar, or are able to kidnap one from one of the two. Aurochs come from the area I would define as 'beyond the known world'. I'm going to assume you know that Mal Krian is beyond the canyon of waste. You know the 3 room climb up over there? It leads to fan dunes and wave dunes, etc, that spread out and there is an aurochs or two there. As far as I know, when someone actually wanted one as a mount, it took summoning it, calming it magickally, and then someone trying to break it, and someone still died, so I'm not sure if it was just the extra mile for roleplay's sake, or if it was just one of those things that is not ordinarily codedly tameable, and so they had to meet a bunch of random requirements to get staff to tame them. Gnu... I really don't know.

aurochs were changed. they used to be tame mounts, so all it took was hitching them up and having a way to get them past the drop.

The fact that sandlord has no backstory is a good thing. It means if ever anyone, be it Imm or PC create some kind of awesome, stupid, or so so plot that somehow involves Red Storm, a backstory can be written up. Otherwise, a story gets written, but never tapped ICly. It gets out OOC. Then something happens and Imms are constricted by what was already written. Even if it never seen the light of day IG. What's a point then?
Samos was riding a Horse. So did Qoriya and ... the long lived Lirathan who was before Qoriya. I forgot her name.

Gnus are along the south wall of the deep grey forest. If your pc gets his face torn off by rantarri, you've gone too far.
I hauled a ranger or two out there at one point, but none of them could tame the gnus.

I remember reading something on here about a white rantarri?
Not the guy, the critter.
What's up with that?

What's up with up with Steinal? Is it a real coded place? What's in it? Zombies? I always assumed the grassy square in the middle of the salt flats is where Steinal once was. Might be wrong though.

That was actually the stronghold that the one group had going there. It got unlinked in the past 3 years, admins went in and manually just linked the grassy rooms around it together so it was inaccessible. It was, god, I can't recall the name because I never played in it and it was closed by the time I was on staff, but I'm sure someone older could recall it. Not the CAM, but something like that? It was magicker related. AFAIK, Steinal was never codedly built or part of the game.

A friend told me a while back that Dragonthralls would regularly access the ruins of Steinal, which was all underground and stuff.
However this was four or five years ago, and the information source was dubious at best.

My grey forest knowledge is pre-flood I guess. I was under impression Rentarri were only in Mantis Valley.
The grassy square in the middle of the salt flats is the old conclave fortress.

That's what it was, the conclave!
As to that being the remains of Steinal, it's not. It is linked down in a room south of one of the rooms along the river that leads to the serpent statue in the thorns south of Mantis Valley, and it had an animated stone soldier as a guardian, and that was for the Dragonsthralls, yes, but it was not and is not, to my knowledge, anything whatsoever to do with Steinal.
