Necroing the thread: Does anyone know if using an archery dummy actually improves archery with misses? Not positive, but my guess is that you can. I know I've ground out throw, kick, and bash on dummies. For non-passive combat skills like that, dummies are by far the best way to raise your skills because you will crit fail / get reversed every. single. time. Practicing against a live sparring partner? Ineffective. Call me in 20 days, n00b. Practicing against an immobile dummy that my 95 year old grandmother could school? Basically the blooper reel at the end of a Jackie Chan movie. You'll be a stud in no time. #ArmLogic Next time just google "Armageddon MUD" and click the first link. The best thing about this is that it's true. One experiment I've always wanted to run in Arm was a priority wis Warrior. I know I've seen elves come into the Byn with their low str and high wis and agility, and by the end of their runner year they were kicking the shit out of the Veteran troopers by dint of actually being able to skill up. Has anybody tried something like that? I'm sure you'll never be one of those epic top 10 (we had to raise it from top 3 to top 10 because everyone has the life span of a sorceror king these days) warriors, but it could be a fun experiment. Maybe everyone can boggle at your advanced weapon skills.

About a year ago I had a character who never used kick or bash in sparring and only did it vs the training dummy, and I notched the skillz up to Jman. I think I've done throwing vs dummy before and found it to work, but I honestly can't recall the character, so I'm not positive about that one.

I once got chewed out for using them on a dummy by an animated NPC, I got in trouble because my elf was determined to knock that dummy down someday, and one day, he did... the slaves were all angry with him, as was the Kuracci Sergeant that showed up. Needless to say, I never bashed a dummy after that.
