There are indeed pedophiles in the game and staff is aware of it. I submitted a complaint at one point about a character threatening my 'youth' character with death if I didn't perform oral sex. Which violates multiple standards the game claims to set. The result? Nothing. Oh, except for me getting dinged later on in a karma request for 'not trusting my fellow players'.
... Whoa. Well, that's pretty much going against the no rape rule doesnt it. What was the character if you dont mind saying ?
Also. What exactly did you expect to happen? Let's say staff read this and had a chat with him. The player said, "My bad. Got it."
Then what should happen? Should they teleport both of you into one room and let you cut his dick off? Did the player continue doing rapey shit after your complaint?

I've been playing a while. I have seen younger characters and older characters sometimes hooking up, but I haven't seen a subset of players intent on systematically hunting for that young chicken over and over and making that their outlet for weird pedo-shit. I have seen lots of characters who are horndogs, but I haven't seen those that desperately focus on pre-pubescent characters. Am I really missing it? Yes. I stumbled upon that world by accident too. I was told in a response that "choosing the 'andro' gender for my character was a signal that I was open for weird sexual roleplay. What I was trying to do was rp a little street thief who happened to be a young girl but was pretending to be a boy (for obvious reasons). I guess I'd watched too much GoT that month. I picked andro with the intent that I WOULDN'T get drawn into weird sexual play with a child-character I created. Instead it turned out to be a dog whistle. Staff told you picking "Andro" as your gender opened you up to... wow. Color me too naive. |

The character instead left the Guild rather than submit to the Guild boss's further sexual advances and went on to steal Polain's warehouse key and then start trying to become a 'reformed' thief. (Which is easier when you have gotten very rich as a thief.) However not long after she was murdered by the Guild anyway. This one could almost be a cross-post. Shit-players run the Guild. |

Check your PM's. We discussed it at the time and you encouraged me to file the complaint. Your comment then to me was along the lines of 'they may not do anything with one offense but it helps build a track record of misconduct'. The character instead left the Guild rather than submit to the Guild boss's further sexual advances and went on to steal Polain's warehouse key and then start trying to become a 'reformed' thief. (Which is easier when you have gotten very rich as a thief.) However not long after she was murdered by the Guild anyway. This one could almost be a cross-post. Shit-players run the Guild.
Sure. But they wouldn't tell you. If let's say you suspect two players multi playing. You send in a character report and it's found that they are NOT in fact multi playing. You will get a response saying, "Nope. All's Kosher." But any other result? The response would be, "Thanks. We'll look into it." resolved. That's it. The rest is between the player and staff.
My point is that if nothing obvious happens, doesnt mean that nothing happens. And if something does happen. You wont be told about it. There is no "YOU HAVE YOUR VINDICATION" post. But it doesnt mean that nothing happens.
What would you have preferred to happen? Should he have been force stored for it?

Reading over my player complaint from the time ... it's not QUITE as cut and dry situation as it sounds.
So the Guild had a couple of players and were going around murdering anyone southside who wouldn't join up. After nearly getting ganked while trying to skill up, I went to the Folley and found the woman who was running the Guild at the time.
I asked what I had to do to keep from getting killed and she responded with a request for oral sex. I said no and then she said, "oh alright then, 300 sid."
THAT was what let her off the hook with staff. The fact that she didn't explicitly state it as a threat and changed it to sid when I said no.

The player involved could have been banned for creating a rapey situation, as the rules stipulate. It would actually be a justified ban for once. |

For all acounts, there is a possibility that the person didnt even see your sdesc (if hooded), or didnt even "look" at your mdesc.
I dont know man. This is a lot different then how it sounded originally.

Bottom line ... the game isn't full of pedophiles, but there are some creeps and perverts who probably ARE pedophiles. Would I let my children play this game? Hell no. No more than I would have let them watch Game of Thrones. It's full of mature content.
And I lack faith that staff is capable of policing this. Partly due to their own problems, but also largely because these creeps and perverts really know where the line is much better than your average person and know how to dip their toe across it just enough to be able to pull back really fast and then claim innocence.
