I am struggling to understand that.
Are you saying that the different between 114 and max hide gear and a natural 115 is SIX TIMES?
That's some serious algebraic fuckery right there.

(against a max-scanner) Yea dude I think, the main point is this, when you go from being unseen to seen, you lose a 30 BONUS to steal (that's BIGGG).
Going below that threshold of visibility (115 for max scanners afaik) increases your chance of being seen (hence losing the bonus) from no chance, to 1/40, that's what causes this kink, if I didn't fuck up, and that one other assumption I have holds. I've had a lot of whiskey dude, I'll double check this tom or day after, my finals just got over so I have time for this fuckery now.
If your victim is not a max-scanner, I'm sure a similar kind of threshold exists, but with a different change in probability around it (but there will still be that very high sensitivity of fuckup probability to a change in hide score of 1 unit)

Congrats on finals and enjoy the whiskey.
I follow all reasonable precautions when stealing. Don't do it in a crowded room if anyone is standing ... go for lightweight objects only when reasonably certain I'm hidden ... etc.
And always have a plan to freakin' run if you see it fail.

Thanks man!
Yea, afaik, having run on once you already are hidden doesn't affect chances (it affects chances to implement hide, you should have sneak on when you hit "hide", once your hide is attempted, no need to sneak if you're not changing rooms). I cba about doing it for lowly targets when I have AI elf agi, but I always keep run on when the stakes are high, damn trigger happy templars actually making Allanak harsh and scary and interesting smh.

Those item lists that sneazy posted at one point are ancient. Don't count on any of that information carrying over to the live game. There have been item audits in recent years and I can assure you nothing gives +10 hide anymore. They've carefully gone through things like bows and stealth equipment to make sure there isn't anything overpowered.

Damn, thanks. I did think +10 was way too OTT.

so unless you can get your hands on the veined Guild set. I know that what I'm about to say is off topic AF, but does anyone get irked when you're playing and playing, and you hit a point where you really need to go shoot a silt horror or something. And in order to make the right shot or something you need this one specific Salarr bow that you're sure will work. Your race/skill/stat combo isn't the best but you need to upgrade to the bow to fulfill an order for horror shell or whatever it is that you're convinced that you need. So you go up to your friendly local Salarr merchant, and you place an order for the bow by name, and since you know that these players hate that you then throw in AN EXTRA TWO LARGE and ask them to throw in a matching cloak/dagger combo that they hand pick for you. Express yourself, right? Pick me out something nice. But when I'm haggling with them, they act like they don't have the bow. They act like they don't know which one I mean. They act like they can't just wish up and get it, or have it explained to them, or whatever. They act like I'm cramping their style. Aren't they cramping my style? Why are they treating me like I'm such a twink, when I've been banging my head against the wall for a real life week for wont of the stupid magic bow that I need, that they know that I need.

I'll go into off-topic land with you on this rant. The last time I was in a merchant house, which is a long time, there were hardly any crafting supplies in the warehouse. I asked where all the good were and they told me they weren't buying any, but if an order comes in to go to a special spot and just get it from the merchant NPC. I was thinking at the time, "Just what is your purpose in the game now? Why isn't this merchant NPC in the bazaar with all the others?"

I dont like this balance of power either, but several other changes Brokkr and Ness have added support ClanMud. Namely, the shop inventories persisting through reboots.
IMHO this has been a real game changer. Humans (people who play the game) are diurnal creatures and we will want most experiences to have a rhythm or a flow to them. Armageddon no longer has this at all. Removing the (periodic) effect that crashes have had on the game, have removed yet another reason for me to log onto the game on a day to day basis. A few months ago, I could be walking home from work and could think to myself, "I wonder if the game crashed today? I'll log on for a few minutes when I get home," and assume that I could sell some loot if the game had crashed while I was at work. Now that the game doesn't properly crash, there's one less reason to log on by a day to day basis. I'll mention the gladiatorial games. The games are the one last thing that makes the game different from real life week to week. It would be funny if people complained about the games and then nobody had a reason to play at all, except to MUDsex.
Add in that sponsored raider clans will at some points be strong enough to lock pcs whose players might be too proud to let their chars give them anything but a chronic fightorflight response instead of paying them off or working a deal out of necessary skill grinding areas. I actually agree with you here, and think that the way that these clans operate, even though they don't do this on purpose, is to create a little clique of people who have payed them off. It's yet another funnel that makes it difficult to play a true renegade. I was unable to ever surpass journeyman weapons on enforcer. Tried for ages and it just didn't happen. Right out of the gate, I could barely get a miss off anything you can realistically go and fight. By the time I'd trained up parry and defense to the point where I could take on things like gith, tarantulas and mantis, those could no longer dodge me. Well, I could eke out maybe one miss per three tarantulas, but at that point I wasn't even sure I could still gain from them anyway even when I did occasionally miss. I tried joining the Byn, but nobody there could dodge me either and the clan was pretty cucked at the time so I gave up on that as well. And I've had similar experiences. You know what's funny, is that you would think at this point that the correct player response would be to simply write in to staff and request some sort of remediation, but if you do the staff will get snippy and write you back (eventually, heh) and imply that you're attempting to cheat. Off topic, this is like the best thread we've had on this board in a minute. considering all the good things ppl have said abt the cw and their rp on this board tall while being a monitored player clan that correct me if im wrong is the only playerclan good enough to get a staff led role call to continue it on after the leader was gone id say the only reason ud be gated out of those areas is because ud rather die than have any of ur chars rp anything remotely resembling submission to raiders I kind of agree with you, but it just seems that by becoming incorporated the CW have become merely the latest addition to the game funnel process. I'm just saying. They've taken over Red Storm. So in my opinion, by taking over Red Storm they've effectively eliminated one category of game play that was open for diversity in the past. It relates to the anemic ability of many players to play out conflict that doesn't resolve in death or extortion. I mean, things have gotten better. Extortion is still a new concept for the average PC warlord. But when paying an in game bribe becomes the de facto answer to a particular complaint, then I question if the extortion process is really being paid with in or out of game money. The problem certainly isn't "raider groups," it's "Armageddon players." Yeah, staff are no longer the weak link. It's the players at this point. I'd go further than that. I think that there is a nascent amount of favoritism in the game which is alright, but inevitable. My point being that some of these players don't understand that they're anointed, so if you have a conflict with them there's going to be unfair consequences because their staff sponsors take it personally. This is bound to happen. You'd think the players would realize that they're playing on easy mode but they don't and that's where the system breaks down.

Right? LOL. And if you bring this to staff's attention - politely - they are still going to snap back at you with some version of "If you don't like it, why don't you store?"
I mean, staff have gotten better. We're no longer in the Vanth/Nessalin era. But there is still way too much, "If you don't like it, store."

I am really, really bothered by the new version of the Crimson Wind. Not particularly any of the players in it. I don't know any of them and, as far as I've seen, they're doing a good job with their roleplay (in the limited interaction I've had with them.). I'd love to have a private chat with them to hear about how the thing really operates because I might be pretty far off base on my impression.
But that said, I really dislike how they are OPENLY SPONSORED by the Sandlord now. They have a public-facing structure on a main street, no longer a hidden entrance in an alley. That changes the political dynamic in a way that I haven't seen addressed in game. The Sandlord, by harboring a group which rides openly against Allanak and the Templars, has gone beyond just protecting his turf on the Silt Sea and is actively aiding and abetting the enemies of the city. OPENLY.
The other dynamic I dislike about the way things are going is how Red Storm has turned into "Rinth By the Sea". Protection is openly demanded from groups, who don't care if you're a silter or a smuggler. They are literally breaking one of the first rules of Red Storm ... posted by staff on the rumor board in Red Storm ... don't mess with the spice trade.
But the game has become just as factionalized up north as well. Try riding in the grasslands with a southern accent these days.
ClanMud indeed. Join or die. No room anymore for the free agent.

--on bribes ...
I would be content with paying bribes IF THEY MATTERED.
A Templar demands a bribe. You pay it. But 3 hours later someone else has bribed him more and you get murdered. Or you paid the bribe to him but some soldier in the militia catches you with a grain of spice in a bag search and some other Templar murders you before the one you paid the bribe too even shows up. Or maybe even the one you paid murders you because he knows you're not going to come up with more sid. Or he's bored.
Bribes are an unpredictable safety method for keeping you from being murdered. Even worse, once you'd paid the bribe you're on their radar in a way that makes you wish you'd never have approached them to bribe them in the first place.

TLDR - Players act in incentivized manner. If the game is ClanNak and they're indies, they'll take the opportunity to close the gap.
What is a clan?
A group of players with persistence?
A group of players with staff acknowledgement (and support)?
Indie operations have existed for years and years even back when I was but a weee newb you had Nash the former sargeant running the 3 moons trading company with a little wagon and they bred rare mounts (with staff help) for nobles/templars/faithful/chosen.
When they closed Tuluk and gutted other hubs of play's independence it led to the Nak superpower. All that matters is Nak. Gemmed, Templar, Houses, even the Merchant Houses are overtly Nak because there's no reason to maintain any middle-ground anymore. Like someone was telling me this tale...
" cover myself in jade dragons with piles of lumber beside tuluk tenting gemmed mages campfire party hide nothing rub kryl on my cross tattooed nipples lozors y u mad gais am trad'n orginhyzashun. "
How do indies compete when the Post, Northlands, Everywhere is overtly Nak leaning or overrun with Nak characters? I guess you get a little bump from the Sandlord so you can at least offer some alternative because Sandstorm can't be pro-nak it's to much a hive of scum and villian that Luir's can't be anymore.

I didn't read this before. So they messed up with off/def finally. I'm speaking to the twinks: If you are going to twink it, go at full force otherwise it's going to be a terrible grind and waste of time: Play from 2 computers create a dummy elf account with max agility, get in byn as a noob. Use VPN for this account, leave it idle mostly. Spar, rest, spar, always with wooden training weapons and heavy armors on both characters. Ext.heavy is fine, both characters will get maxed in about day 20
