What are some of the best items you can purchase in ARM at the start? Whether it's from the newbie item store, or the bazaars and NPCs around Allanak or other towns.

The best starting equipment you can look for is, paradoxically, the worst equipment that has the steepest coded negative to your to-hit. This is because of the small-brained system of the miss economy. You have two choices,
* Buy that sweet carved bone spear that gives a + to hit and then never raise your piercing skill again, * Come across a shattered broken stone arrow point that gives a - to hit, grind your piercing up using it, and then never miss when you switch to that sweet carved bone spear in 10 days played.
Now, if you're talking "I just want to run into the bar and kill aides" like a good dwarf? Max strength and go for the half-giant clubs in the Salarri bazaar store.

I'm conflicted. On the one hand I want to help but on the other hand whatever gear I suggest will just get changed when staff reads about it here so what is the better course of action?

To answer generically, buy helm, neckpiece, body, and two wrist armors. It almost doesnt matter which ones, as long as you can use them without going over light encumbrance. Your pc will be struck in the other locations (arm, leg, foot, waist) less often, for less damage.
If your pc cannot brew tablets, you have a choice of trusting another pc to sell you an effective cure, or to buy one of the four commonly available poison cures from an npc vendor. Three are cheap, two are only available once a reboot.
If you are going use the forage command for anything, a +forage item wont go amiss.
If you are going to buy and sell literally hundreds of items, a merchants rod wont go amiss. If your pc is ever going to take a mount near a dangerous foe, spurs are probably a good idea. They do interfere with the miss economy at points, so think it through.

Looking for someone to hit me with a PM of the best store bought items or NPC found items that can be gotten easily. Doing this will just end up with items nerfed. Also, see posts above, specifically ppurg "The best starting equipment you can look for is, paradoxically, the worst equipment that has the steepest coded negative to your to hit"

These are great for small damage / high miss: Wooden daggers / knives for piercing Rough stone for bludgeoning light agafari saber for slashing any wooden lightweight axe for chopping For armor, contrary to popular belief, damage is not that important when beginning. Just take the heaviest possible ones and you will get hit hard towards mid-game anyways (vs spiders and so on) Chitionous breastplate or obsidian breastplate + mekillot hide armguards from Luirs rest is scrab armor, it's heavy enough
