Hrm. Wonder how will it affect the voting. One of the reasons why a lot of votes dissapeared, is because you now need to have 5 posts on the forums, before the account becomes eligible to vote. Without forums, what happens then?
I find it interesting to chat, in general, about a specific MUD game I'm playing. I don't find it interesting to talk about all MUD games generally. I didn't frequent these forums. What sort of things were discussed?
I've never tried a MUD based on votes. Always based on themes. Now granted I wouldn't stay at a MUD when I got through the process and found like 3 players online, but votes weren't what would get me there.
Man, I take a vacation for a couple of weeks and an entire MUD website goes full retard.
Can't blame the moderators for giving up though. Most of those posters had some serious issues. Their choices were either to ban almost all of the active posters or leave the forum completely unmoderated. Neither choice is a good look.
You're not entirely wrong. Most hardcore MUD players are antisocial assholes who are playing a game because the alternative is to live a shitty life. When games bill themselves as immersive, you get people who want to escape from reality. When games bill themselves as giving players the opportunity to do whatever they want, you get people who are inconsiderate of others' ability to enjoy the game too.
mehtastic: Sure, but you don't actually know for sure if it's the player, or someone else inspired by the player's style. Staff know for sure, 100% of the time, who is playing whom. That's the difference.

delerak: the player base for arm has alwayus been small overall. it is almost guarnateed if you sort the memberlist for the gdb by posts the top 10-20 posters have been or currently are on staff with alternate names.

qwerty: All in all, in my observation. OOC relativity comes about cliques, then hostility. As in, players might not care if you offed their previous character. But they might like and include another PC whom they talk to more often ooc.

delerak: I recently accused staff of some nonsense. They showed me the log and I felt embarrassed. It's hard to shake the paranoia of days gone by when you were slayed by staff for going afk and using a script to forage wood.
