I've been poking around, EoE just doesn't seem like something I can get into. At least from how its sold it seems very Tressy tress type play. Bit of an explorer and we know how small Arm is. Anyone got any recommendations? EoE isn't sold as anything in particular, except that it's designed to try to appeal to mass audiences of different flavors. Political RP, Explorer RP, Crafter RP, Hunter RP. Whatever. It all depends on what interests you. If you can't sniff your niche out, email esos@eoemud.com, if you have something in mind. We also try to set concepts according to their background, if you take the time to submit a background, we'll try to meet that expectation to some degree. What's the point in a Sergeant going in and getting murdered by everyone? I will say this, we have more than our share of people send off a random email, with me having no idea who they are, telling me how much karma they have or what kind of badass they are on other muds. I had a guy tell me about all the necromancers he has had on Harshlands. I'm less impressed by this than I am by someone sending me an email with an eye toward our docs, and a well thought out personal story. If you're willing to put thought into your concept beyond just a paragraph that tells me you were born for battle and have done it since you were four years old and now have climbed the mountain as master...we'll entertain your concept. Esos isn't for everyone. We're not Armageddon. We're not Harshlands. We have issues that we're working on, we have issues we don't even know about. But we've got a good playerbase who are trying hard to make a decent combination of personal story and world story. And we make every effort to listen to our players, be transparent about what we're doing and keep the story moving. It is what it is.

jazet Hopefully you don't take offense by anything I said. My only exposure is the two times I've logged on and what I'm hearing from other players. The lack of ooc quit/ranger quit/ abundant quit rooms is an immediate turn off. I already had an instance I needed to log out "RIGHT NOW" had to figure may way through the city real quick. Besides that, it looks cool, I'm trying to get into it. I don't expect commands/features to be added just for my sake.

Believe me, seen, heard and been told well enough that you didn't offend me at all. And I'll tell you, if you need a quit room, and wish up and can't get one, drop me an email and I'll set you up with a little portable tent so you can drop it and get in and get out as soon as you can. Worry not. And no, we wouldn't add features for just one player, but if that one feature benefits many players, there's no reason not to. All depends on how "important" it is on the coding priority list. Appreciate anyone giving Esos a try though, you guys have my thanks.

Been playing EoE a bit for a few days. I generally like the players and the style of play going on here. I'm enjoying myself. Nice change of pace from Arm.

There aren't a lot of quit rooms in the wild, but it is possible to buy a travel tent, construct it, and quit out in it, anywhere. Edited to add: Guess I should read on to the next page before I respond, eh?

Is EoE code similar to Arm, or is it one of those "need to learn a whole new thing" type of changes. I always have trouble getting into new codebases.

Well, Esos is derived from DIKU, so the basic ideas will be similar to what you're used to. They have features that we don't, we have features that they don't. It's not like having never mushed and trying to mush, nothing that extreme.
