Hey Folks, Shade here from Black Sands MUD. Enjoying my time away from mudding, coding and all that bullshit. Even started up my own web hosting company and I'm making money from what I learned doing MUD stuff.
While I don't have the itch to work on Black Sands anymore, I've been tossing around the idea of a new mud, designed and built by the players, the story, etc.. Much like a project. We could have a trello board for ideas and what not.
I'd probably use something like Japheth's futureMUD engine when he releases it. I'll have to brush up on my c# but it won't be too hard.
What are your thoughts and feelings about a community organized MUD where ideas can be upvoted and the mud based off of that?
This could include skills/theme ideas/backstory/world size/etc.

You'd have to be clear that ideas are evaluated based on merit and how well they fit, but that it is not a democracy. Trying to please everyone, or even just trying to go along with the majority, is a good way to not please anyone. A lot of people don't know how to express what they want in a game. Some are just dead-wrong.
To be clear, though, I like your idea. I'm just warning you against thinking crowdsourcing will work without having to sometimes ignore a consensus.
What I'm arguing is that there's not any valid reason to suddenly be worried that every single person in game is going to be killing you with a rageboner made of magick. People had perfectly good rageboners without magick
For sure, my thought is to accept submissions for ideas, get them on the board and let people vote on them. The ones with the highest votes would be considered, just because something gets the highest vote, it wouldn't automatically win. There would be discussion based upon it, weighed against the other options and so forth.
The purpose of this is to design a game that everyone would want to play, using ideas 'crowdsourced' from MUD players.
qwerty: and if someone is unexplainably hostile to you for no good reason. Chalk it off to being an asshole and slit their throat

qwerty: All in all, in my observation. OOC relativity comes about cliques, then hostility. As in, players might not care if you offed their previous character. But they might like and include another PC whom they talk to more often ooc.

qwerty: But again. You cant control it. Cant prove it. The nagging suspicion will ruin your gameplay. I just try not to worry about it and react to the gameworld events as if there is no ooc influence. Doing anything else makes for a really shitty experience

qwerty: You cant stop people from talking ooc. And if people talk ooc, it's bound to happen that they cooperate ooc. Or ... or not. But you wont know and therefore, you'll suspect. And this suspicion will kill the game for you.

qwerty: 4/5 times someone rages against staff, staff had nothing to do with it. It's just number one suspicion people go to.

delerak: I recently accused staff of some nonsense. They showed me the log and I felt embarrassed. It's hard to shake the paranoia of days gone by when you were slayed by staff for going afk and using a script to forage wood.

mehtastic: I posted it on the Discord server a long time ago, but unfortunately I don't use Discord much anymore. If you can get a Discord invite you can get the code, probably.

mehtastic: I am back on Discord. If you want a copy of the code dump, join the shadowboard Discord and ask, or DM me: meh#0490. Feel free to DM if you feel addicted to Armageddon and want help detaching yourself from it, too.
