If people are still at a place with the game where they can hear 'possessed mul sorc with empowered silt horror plate with a silt island base and a secret entrance for their skimmer' and not instinctively roll their eyes, before finding more out about it, then I commend and envy you.
As it happens, whether or not Hawk's corpse ever got puppeted, I don't think the original player was a sorc. And that did make me think him a bit more cooler than when some here initially claimed he was one.
Most of my respect is reserved for those great leaders and sergeants who were never allowed to advance to lieutenant in their clan (for example) or build an outpost or start an indie clan, no matter how much RP they instigated. Sujaal (who I was in the Byn with!) was no better than dozens of leaders I've seen since. I think half the reason people remember him, is he got to be a lieutenant.

The reason there are rumors that Hawk was a sorc is that there was a fairly long-lived Sorcerer active in the same time period, the Sorc happened to also involve other people in their plots whenever they could, and said Sorc -also- happened to get merc'd around the time Hawk went down.
The difference, however, was that Hawk died in Tuluk. The Sorc died in the south. I don't really know much more than that, honestly. Hawk was against Borsail, but I'm pretty sure the sorc was doing anti-tuluk things. Wish I could provide more info.

And once a year, on a certain spot on the silt sea, he and his army of zombie bodyguards rise to the surface, he looks around, and says "Oh, fuck no, not yet."

I'd welcome someone coming in, dropping the mic on us doubters and proving us wrong. It'd give me hope for Arm. But after like 12 years of the same shit, I just can't be impressed very easily. The only place we drop the mic is mumble, bro. Sign on in some time. And for all that this guy was a local hero for two RL years, what mark did he leave on the game? Lack of a mark is probably the biggest argument he wasn't an immpet. So, if a guy gets into the game and does a bunch of stuff and facilitates a bunch of fun, and a bunch of people say that's how it should be done and they had a lot of fun with him... Why does it matter if he was friends with staff or not? What if he was a staffer? Would it matter? I actually agree it shouldn't matter, but it is worth bringing up the resistance to a non-immpet doing the same on their own initiative. That said: I don't think Hawk was an immpet. A guy that made a lot of players happy and seems to have played a genuinely interesting character that tried to do some serious shit. As for legacy? He'll be remembered as someone who facilitated good role-play for those that encountered him, and that's pretty powerful in itself. You've all got a group of characters whom you seem to admire, but ask any newbie IG about Quick, Sujaal, or somebody else from 10 years ago and they'll have no idea what the fuck you're talking about. Yeah, I pretty much never read anyone singing my praises. I kept shit active; that was my contribution. I still remember that fondly.

All people can seem to focus on is that he's a staff-pet and you couldn't do what he did unless you were... blah blah blah literally one person in the thread said this, calm your tits. Literally literally, or figuratively literally? Like, are you saying the number of people saying this is like 1, metaphorically 1, or the sum of 3 and -2? (Personal note: The day they changed literally into its own antonym was the best day of my life)

This is partially because I'm boring.

So you want to fake your death:
Find a Nilazi friend. Give him a dead body. Have him cast pseudo corpse on the body to make it look like you. Have him possess that body and go somewhere very public and die in a flamboyant and over the top scene, leaving people talking about it for a long time.
I'm not saying Hawk did this, but this is what I would do if I wanted to fake my death.
Edited to add: maybe a nilazi heard he was wanted and approached him and offered to help him fake his death.

It'd be great if the nilazi gave his 'friend' such a humiliating, poncy death (I don't know, being found ass up and face down in the Byn latrines is a bad way to go, or fucked to death by a jozhal), that the real guy can't help but claim he's the original...and no one believes him. Or a witch hunt ensues with accusations of him being the impostor. Speaking of the Byn latrines. That place has seen its share of carnage. Early on in my Arm career, I once got into a horrific spat with another runner, and my dwarf beat him into unconsciousness, subdued him, dragged him to the latrines, and emoted drowning him in feces before leaving his corpse there with a creative ldesc. No one else was online, so I just logged off...It caused quite a bit of stir when found. Needless to say, Sarge was baffled. I've come across a couple bodies in odd places around the Byn compound since.

Yeah, "Nilazi friend" is a stretch.

This is what I think I know; Hawk was a ranger, used to hunt with him about as often as I could. He did have a Sorc friend, anyone remember Hasan, before he went bat shit crazy, that is who I think it was at least. He also had a Nilaz "friend" too. Hawk's death, I wasn't there for any of them so it is only speculative.

Hawk was mundane, a normal dude, with a normal crew. He was great at keeping shit together and involving people. A little too earnest sometimes, but perhaps for the better.
At some point, amidst many other mundane plots, he got involved into a magickal one. He got friendly with some Nilazi and Sorcerers. Being a badass and being fun, being a leader of a mundane crew, and being able to get shit done, he was a goldmine for the sorcerers and the nilazi.
This got him access to magick rings, dead speak, vloran, drovian intelligence, defense against magick, invisibility to magickers. He wasn't "too' closely related to the magick shit, but he spent plenty of time with Hasan's group. At some point, when his crew came under fire, 'some' of his crew hid amongst Hasan's own people.
No sane Nilazi would touch Hawk's corpse. Hawk was being persued more then Hasan was. Possessing his corpse is one way to die the true death for a Nilazi.
The mere fact that a person cannot 'believe' that someone who did a lot of awesome shit, simply can NOT be someone who's not a staff pet, or dating a staffer, or an ex-staffer, or whatever the fuck, says more about that specific person then the game.
