Only played with Albie a few short times.
Everyone usually bags on halfgiants. What does Albie do that makes him a treasure? What can players learn from Albie? Let's make this helpful for players who might screwup or not know how to play a halfgiant. I know I am afraid to play a halfgiant because of how everyone dumps on them. You all always post the negatives what about positives? What does a good halfgiant look like? What generalizations can you make from Albie?
Though don't post info that would ruin plot things for him. And no criticisms. I hate naming active characters in criticisms. What general things does he get right?

I know I am afraid to play a halfgiant because of how everyone dumps on them. You all always post the negatives what about positives? You shouldn't worry so much about complaints people post on the boards about half giants. If you actually play the game you'll see that half-giants are very popular characters to interact with. Some of this is because of their utility, but a lot of it is because there's a significant portion of people that just genuinely enjoy playing with them. I think the much bigger problem to playing a half-giant that people enjoy playing with, is playing a half-giant that doesn't get mind numbingly dull. The best trick I've found for this is to give your giant affinities for interesting people, and then find those interesting people in game and copy them.

About two years back my younger indie character met this giant who he became friends with and they'd hang out, go foraging, etc. Giant made my char this cute little grass basket. My char suffered a horrible, random death and left the giant alone in the desolate roleplay sphere of Red Store. About a week back, saw this giant in-game, still alive . I shed a tear inside It is sad. Who could play a half-giant in Red Storm for so long? Only played with Albie a few short times. Everyone usually bags on halfgiants. What does Albie do that makes him a treasure? What can players learn from Albie? Let's make this helpful for players who might screwup or not know how to play a halfgiant. Say 'Yup' and 'Boss' a lot while standing around with a big, goofy shit-eating grin. In short, be everyone's comic relief. Although half the playerbase will hate you regardless, the other half will somehow think its cute and give you misplaced props for being a walking cliche. Why? I don't know. Why is the Asylum movie studio a profitable enterprise? Some people are easily entertained. Maybe 1% of the playerbase has ever played a long-term half-giant because they find something intrinsically interesting about the race from an RP-perspective. There isn't much inherently interesting about them outside their coded strength, which is why it's so rare. 99% of dedicated half-giant players are guys who equate the strength stat with their dick, and have some kind of weird fetish for being big, dumb and stupid in various RPGs. This is evident to a lesser or greater extent depending on the player/character in question (like those surveys where you're 33% explorer, 55% twink and 15% fuck-me, or whatever). Some half-giant players* are only 10-25% strength-fetish. Not all of them are jerking off to muscle magazines. It's sort've like bronies...only about a third of bronies are actually pedophiles. I still find them derisive, but I understand and empathize with the twinkery of it. I know they'd play any race with stats they found attractive, no matter how bizarre or stupid (mantis, halflings). More alarmingly, quite a few seem to have some kind of obsession with being big, dumb and creepy for its own sake. For bonus points, make subtle pseudo-sexual advances on female PCs. Or if you're Grom, male. *By half-giant players I am specifically referring to that exotic species of Armageddon player who predominantly plays one half-giant after the other. Virtually everyone who has reached karma 3 has tried their hand at one or two half-giants, whether for twinking or curiosity purposes, but found it distasteful enough to not want to app one again, regardless of their coded strength. So unless this equates to you, don't start bitching about how your one half-giant you played in 2007 was different.

i get the hate for HGs. i really do. Thy're clearly being played by a lot of people at the moment who wsh they had muls but lack the karma. But it's not like it's dfficult to play a HG correctly and enjoy it.
Basically playing a half-giant is like playing an enormous puppy. Youre concerned with eating things that taste good and fighting for fun and getting a pat on the head. But you're too young to really fixate on who you're going to wind up loyal to. and you have a blank check to do comedic thngs because (if you're not misplaying your character as a mul with bad wisdom and no nuclear temper) people typically like having you around. Because youre not yet another broodng badass or pretentious fuck.
You get to be funny (even lighthearted) in the grim darkness of the future harsh desert world of Arakis Zalanthas. And it's not ridiculously poor role playng when you do it.

I'm trying to decide if Lenny, in 'Of Mice and Men' would be either smarter than the average half-giant, or dumber. Because some of his mannerisms are hilarious (George: Give me the damn mouse, Lenny!), but I could never imagine Lenny working as a patrolling soldier, gate guard or bodyguard either. He'd probably make for a very stupid half-giant, but at least serve as a baseline.

Lenny's a really good baseline, all things considered.
In the case of guarding/patrol, I'd say you should think of half-giants as being like highly trained animals that can talk. They can learn by imitation or through rote, they can follow orders (to a degree) and they can very effectively carry out the same thing over and over again. Improvising, loyalty, deduction, reacting properly to distraction, and motivation are where their weaknesses are.
