I always think mass combat is cool till I see it in action. What would be way cooler is groups of PCs fighting in smaller combats, across several different screens. That would be really cool. I been saying that since I got here. It would take very little to have pcs spread out a little over a few rooms just to lessen the spam and give more of a battlefield experience. Just to have characters run in from another room to say "The east flank collapsed!" Or "we held the oashi farm to the north, the enemy is retreating!" Would be so awesome. Players would feel less cheated by that IMO.

I wish they could have a code fix for just hrpt battles. Not everyone should notice the Templar scratching his balls, If it could random roll who sees who closest to them and give a timer lag when you look for someone not right next to you, that would be nice.

Personally I can't stand to do anything with more than 3 other PCs in the same room.

Personally I can't stand to do anything with more than 3 other PCs in the same room. I was thinking five, but getting wayed by two different people, holding a conversation with two more aloud and traversing the wastes....yeah annoying.

If the Tuluki military is so incredibly helpless against mages, how come its templars and soldiers don't end up dead every time they leave the city? You'd be surprised. Isatep was almost fully branched as a Tuluki templar, and had more than one soldier with her when she died to an een level whiran's guardians. Might I remind you, that is a starting spell. Not entirely true. I was with Isatep with Dargan when it happened. There was also a high level PC ranger with us, and whatever the hell that creepy npc guard she had, as well as a half-giant. However, that all meant shit because she was summoned out from under us deep into the Grey near P'tar Ken. Dargan and Mae plowed through the forest to get to her, but she was killed before we reached her. I never knew what exactly did it...guardians seems quite plausible. She was in my head when whatever it was attacked. I'd amend the above statement and say... If the Tuluki military anyone is so incredibly helpless against mages with summon
Summon is a ridiculous spell. If done properly...no can defend.

Agreed. There is no risk or requirement of skill for summon, it's just a free fuck you button.

Left over spell from Diku that they never removed. Probably should remove it.

You can resist summon, you just don't wind up informed of it afaik. You can also avoid being summoned by being indoors. And templars can avoid being summoned by being inside their city of origin. I believe stoneskin/burrow also prevents it. It's not a forgotten piece of code. It's not totally inevitable. It's a well thought out and combat-able reason why magick is FUCKING scary.

Barrier, distance. Summon is not completely unavoidable unless you leave yourself open to it. Which sometimes 'is' required of people. They kind of offsetted its power by making Whirans a 6 karma role.

It used to require the character's true name, which was pretty cool. Now you can just summon your little heart out via keywords.

Barrier counters quite a few spells, IIRC. Rukkian Sleep for one. Basically, if you're out in the wastes, it's a good idea to keep barrier up (if you have it high enough to not KO yourself). Less distraction, more defense.
The true name thing would be KIND OF cool, except that it always lead to players naming themselves "Xyz" at chargen and addkeywording "Amos" in the Hall of Kings. I wouldn't mind Summon requiring a name, so long as anything you addkeyword is also considered a "name." Because, honestly, what's the difference between the thing your parents called you, and the thing that EVERYBODY ELSE has called you EVER since? If anything, your nickname is more a part of you than your given name...
So, you can defend from whirans, but if one REALLY wants you, you're fucked. You would have to be a nomadic Rukkian who spends all his time in a cave with stoneskin on and a barrier up at off peak hours. Short of that, they'll get'cha sometime.
And honestly, to that end, I don't really mind that they moved Whiran up the karma tree. Especially since at the time they'd done it there were like 5 fuck-head Whiran/Thug/Outdoorsman/Slipknives hanging out in the Span and curb stomping anyone who went anywhere ever. As much as I don't like staff intervention as a solution, those players kind of ruined the guild for everyone else. I hate to use the word "abusable", but lets face it - if a Whiran decides to kill you, they can do so without hardly any preparation or thought, let alone any knowledge of even your current whereabouts, beyond an approximate geographical region.
