I wasn't referring to skill, but to staff connections

People see a player like that and immediately ERMAGERD STAFF AVATAR or ERMAGERD STAFF PET. Please provide solid proof of such accusations, people. Most likely a high karma player, yes. And obviously, playing a character like THAT..yes, they're going to have staff "connections". But...they're going to be REQUIRED..BY STAFF...to have such "connections". They don't let characters like that wander around without extreme oversight and and forced (over)communication. But to just assume avatar or pet, based on a desc, is just silly.

But to just assume avatar or pet, based on a desc, is just silly. i get what you're saying but let's be real here about the nature of the beast. there is no 'proof' beyond doing something like digging through nyr's e-mail or hacking the request tool to find evidence that you then get signed off on by a local notary. do players have a reasonable attitude to be skeptical? sure. look at halaster and bhagavara's avatars. shaloooonsh had his dragonthrall and super-powered NPCs. or nyr's psionicist that mysteriously manages to be completely and utterly unnoticed in a city of mind-bending templars. How about uruz's sorcerer that @anaiah mentioned would use his imm avatar to see who was online and stay out of danger? I'm not saying they're right, and I don't think anyone here believes 100% without a doubt that this is an imm avatar. We've got the player of Shattered who posted here, and everyone remembers Quick and Gin. But let's be realistic here, this is the staff of a game that won't even allow for new wagons to be created for players. I think having a skepticism that they would twink out and make a special snowflake for a non-staff player is entirely healthy.

my point wasn't even that he was necessarily a member of staff. it was that you, the average armageddon player reading this post right now, will never ever play a PC even close to that in today's game.

You're wrong! I as an average play can play a PC like that during the game and here is how!
#1 - Befriend a krathi and provide skulls+sapphire+flint in large quantities so they can make perma-enchanted items #2 - Kill some mother fuckers and steal their stupid clan specific items #3 - Hide out and avoid all players, never file a report, do a lot of think and feels about being crazy #4 - Await death by staff or white knighting players
The only thing you can't accomplish is getting an sdesc/mdesc change and maybe that glass cube... I mean heck an SR krathi can be just like that, Sky Alight is like that except instead of undead he's fire elemental.

If you kill a bunch of people and steal clan-specific stuff, and never file a report, your krathi will be stored. One of the responsibilities for playing a mage is to send a report whenever your character kills someone.
Not going to comment on the actual topic though, because reasons.

I said, befriend a krathi. Not be a krathi.

Sorry, misread. Pretty sure the staff keeps track of who is getting those perma-magicked stuff though, and why, and the circumstances.

While you're mostly right, Ambroise. Your example of Sky Alight is bad . Sky Alight is an avatar actually. Note that he wasnt at all favored or given extra help, or anything like that. He's just a regular Krathi who lived long enough and happens to be an admin. He's no different then say Jakhal before him, except a bit more boring. I didnt know he turned full elemental though. Full elemental = storage.

The other way this happens is:
1) Live an insanely long time. Like, years.
2) Be reasonably responsible.
3) Drive plots.
4) Communicate with staff.
5) Involve others in neat shit.
It isn't hard to be special. Just don't be a mouthbreathing shitlord and play intelligently.

I'm not spending years of my life on a niche role playing game chqracterand sending in pages worth of tps reports as if it's job just to get to have the possibility to do something cool. I think it's shitty to expect a fanatical devotion out of players like that sorry no I have a career and family to prioritize.
