The Highlord has been dead for some time. There is a reason why the southern templarate does not do away with the gemmed. They don't get their power from the Highlord. Stew on that, if you will. I've suspected this for a long time, partly because of something Kelvik posted and partly because of a board message I once read in Red Storm. It talked about what seemed to be a major psionic battle between a whole bunch of connected "points of light" and a dragon figure. The dragon figure was beaten until it was inert, and this apparently was seen by everyone in their mind (thus the notice on the board). When they came out of the vision, those who were still alive were bleeding from the nose and the like. I assumed the connected points of light were the involuntarily recruitment of the minds of, well, everyone. Thing is, I never thought it was an inside job, but rather figured it was Muk or one of his High Precentors. In any case, who can say now? It could easily be retconned away.

I thought Tek killed his father though? He imprisoned his father inside a skull. Able to observe (and be taunted) but nothing more. I guess it didn't last. But I don't think his father is alive in a normal sense.

The original dragon was just the first person to manage to ascend to that level. I would venture to say that the reason why no one ever sees a black robe is because the 4 of them are all partially dragons by now. The way the first dragon managed it was to assemble every kenku in existence together and suck the life from all of them at once before he left the world. And his name was actually Talon, though it was spelled differently, I think it was Talyn or the like. I haven't seen that page of the staff's wiki in like 3 years now.
Also, another good spoiler perhaps, is that there are still 3 other trees of life around. Every time a dragonsthrall was killed, a tree of life sprang up where they fell.
Perhaps crueler, is that the mutants in the Yen El Tun chasm are kept and stuck there because Muk Utep bound them to a tree in the forest which he will use to transcend the world on the Dragon's return, bound them to it soul deep so they're unable to leave, and they, like the tree, grow more and more fire resistant. They are also able to drink the salt water there. I cannot recall what the name of their race is, but the mutation was a result of Muk Utep twisting their souls/minds/bodies to make them inextricably intertwined with that tree.
I would guess his actual father, of those two. In fact, he may well be in the place of his father in the skull. But yes, Muk Utep bound his father to nothing but a head as well. And Muk Utep's father's head is the only way to get sorcery with a different guild outside of staff intervention. Well, magick spells, rather. Anyone can get the gather skill who is not a magicker guild, or could, at least, by changing their relationship to the land from neutral to positive or negative.

They might have changed this, but yes. Actually, there were more than one requests put in while I was on staff by people asking why gather suddenly popped up on their mundane pc's skill list. It turns out, it was because they were emptying waterskins out in outdoor rooms or pouring them on plants, etc, enough times to alter their relationship to the land, and that was making the skill branch. They may have fixed that, this was in 2010.

Thanks Anaiah, you know sadly most of us, at lest folks quiet like me. Might never ever found out that stuff. It's interesting. I understand the need for secrecy but at the same time. Just what you have written in the last day... I wanna play more.
There is something too that.
The world becomes more interesting, dark.
The fact the staff thought it fit to lock it away from most the players for years and years is the biggest travesty of all. Some of us aren't privy to much, don't really know other players. ETC.ETC.ETC.
I'd be sad if Arm died one year, and all that great knowledge, fun plots, and interesting stories are locked away in some deep web wiki some where just to be lost with time.
Heh, I think the producers or whatever, are way too myopic, way to untrusting. Arm is great... Hell Arm could still grow in a very natural organic way if they just release a bit of that grip and let players play. Only intervene when things are getting... unproductive. The world should grow, and the last few years, since I came back... it feels like it shrunk... but there are more players then I can remember.
Anaiah seems like they did ya wrong, by I guess pissing you off. Imagine if they'd just let you play your Whiran. I hope that teaches them for their arrogance and hubris.
At the same time, I'm glad you are here to share some of this, shame on whoever thought locking away everything forever was a good idea. That some how us "ordinary folks" Should never know true history and the interesting amazing parts of this game. That hundreds of people have put forth thousands of hours too. I'm not staff unfortunately but... I think If I was I'd be undoing my ban and sending an apology email. Along with an approval for playing a whiran.
But hey, what do I know? I'm just an adult.
I wonder if some one could cox whoever has keys to the castle to finally... I dunno see the light? 60 player peak time is cool... what about 120? What about relevancy again? AS a genre? What they are doing now... seems foolish.
Again, Anaiah +10 internets to you.

I always thought that the father conspired with Verra, who too was imprisoned by Tek and they did away with him.
A good portion of what Anaiah mentioned, was released in little bits here and there. The Jade robes showed up during Gith invasion and the sinking of the Borsail estate, if I recall correctly. Black Robes showed up during some congress meetings.
The mutants were called Thryzn if I recall correctly. Very very scary bastards.
Such little tidbits do show up. But unfortunately whenever they become evident in play, influence of magick goes up to volcano tossing proportions. Which is in my opinion never good. So yeah, they created some extra lore during the end of the world plots. But since the world isnt ending, there isnt a great amount of reason to reveal this. In fact, if it's not revealed and to anyone ICly and the newest plots call for changes of lore. Why not change it?

I'd like to hear any secrets about the crypts beneath Undertuluk and the crazy robed ghouls that lived there. The place also had sarcophagi with mummies in them, but they weren't undead, just dead.

Minister: They are magickers who were/are noble. There was a PC who became a jade robed templar that had a magicker noble, and the other is Tektolnes illegitimate child, a daughter, who has a copper hand (which is insanely awesome). There are, as far as I know, only two. And they serve as mana batteries in much the same way that gemmed do, but they are gifted psionic abilities and sorcery as well by the conglomeration of power that the templarate's built up. Tek's daughter had this weird, long, awesome name which sounds vaguely Mayan.
DCDC: Really, it was just having someone on staff condescend to tell me 'how staff makes decisions' on the GDB - when I'd been on staff longer than they had, before they ever joined, and I happened to be drunk enough to decide that they could shove it, but before I even sobered up, I was banned. Also, I couldn't agree more with the rest of your post, and that's part of why I'm sharing some of what I can recall about the old stories and secrets, because it won't spoil current plots, but gives more interesting depth and dimension to the game.
Armqwertytwo: Yes! Thryzn. I kept wanting to call them Shyzn and was like... no, that's mantis stuff but drawing a blank.
Oldtwink: I didn't investigate that. It was unlinked by the time I joined staff, and since I'd only ever had a really shortlived character who was an undertuluki, it wasn't really of interest. They did make all of it a no contact zone though, because surprise surprise, 8-karma players and people who special apped psionicists would spam contact them (npcs in the unlinked area of undertuluk) and use them to level up their psionic skills on since they couldn't logically report you anywhere and were supposed to be dead.

That seems like an odd reason to close an area.

The area was already closed is the thing. It was closed and unlinked. It was after Undertuluk was supposed to have been flooded, once it was completely inaccessible from the game world, oldtwink. It was supposed to be a scenario where Undertuluk was completely flooded and inaccessible and everyone in it was dead, and these 5-8 karma players were spamming their psionic skills on the npcs there because being 'dead' IC, they couldn't report it, or leave undertuluk -to- report it. Just like they would use gith and such before that.

I don't understand, what does it matter that those NPC's are dead? That's more the reason that staff should slap down on someone caught spam contacting them.
Also, I appreciate learning about the super high level Allanaki politics, it is creepy and interesting. It's sad that common PC's (scratch that, not even templars and nobles) won't ever find out about that and instead have to deal with two bit templars that stopped evoking any real sense of fear and/or reverence long ago and act more like cops extorting your lemonade stand than hands of a God.
