But yes, you can make scary amounts of money. I just never hoard it with my pcs. The only pc I've had with more than 5k at once was my Oashi whiran, Emere, who was subguild jeweler, and she straight gave 80% of what she earned to Lord Oash (including about 3k of the 5k) in order to try and help fund a building project in the gemmed quarter because plots. I'd be interested to hear whether other people do this too (i.e. make sizeable sums of coin and pass them along selflessly).

Most of the time being clanned means you have little to no need for money anymore. Higher ups tend to see their members geared to the teeth and it generally becomes more common for you have have enough cash to either give away or waste on ridiculously overpriced items just for the hell of it.

I've done it with a HG... AFTER I had all my horror shellz armor. There's a point in the game where money becomes, by and large, a non-issue. As people have mentioned, it holds no sway over other players anymore, and really there's only so much gear you need to buy, and only so many ales you need to drink to maintain the illusion that your character spends 75% of their time hanging out in a bar. >.>
And there are plenty of easy ways to make quick sid. In the South, glass / sid mining is my favorite. Hell, I remember back in the day everyone under 5 days played had a glasshacker on their back, but now no one bothers. More for me!

The last time I did glasshacking, those krath damn GIANT SPIDERS chased me while I was low on stamina. I had a fairly strong character then (10 day warrior) and the GIANT SPIDERS were too risky. Salting is the way to go for easy money. The blue, yellow, greyish salts are worth a lot with some merchants. The purplish ones go for 20 sid at the cleaners. Once you level up your forage skill, you're looking at almost 500 sid per round. I haven't been out in the west side of 'nak recently because fuck GIANT SPIDERS, but the salt flats are a lot safer.
Hacking and salting are worth the money because they're risky. They're good plot hooks, especially for the raider types.
My favorite way of making money was when I played a dwarven Byn Trooper who was desperately focused on money. I encouraged the group to go out for 'desert' training. We had a well trained group once, with a couple of half giants. We encouraged the HGs to tank. And then we went out killing mekillots. As planned, the tanks dropped quickly. I shouted for the retreat, telling them to run home and never look back. They did. A mek practically one hitting the best fighter in the group is fecking scary and after an experience like that, many people log off. So I went back there, looted the body, and made about 2 large worth of money and equipment in one go.
I pulled the same trick with a Byn breed ranger sergeant who I hated. Encouraged him to go glass hacking for "desert training". When he slept, exhausted from that hard work, I smashed his skull in. The glass he hacked was worth a bit, and he had some extra mount tickets, which I sold off to Runners. I played the good guy, returned (half) his loot to the Byn and spread the rumor that nobody should be hacking glass because GIANT SPIDERS. My char got whipped for going out in the desert with just two people by the other Sarge, but worth it.
The Byn has such a high turnover rate that nobody remembers who died when they went out 'desert training' with you. Another good source of gold is 'training accidents'. If you're patient, someone will usually overtrain and kill another ambitious character. Play your cards right and you can get the accidental murderer executed, especially if you convince people that he was training backstab or might be a sekrit gicker. Loot both the dead murderer and the victim. Runners are poor, but they usually have mounts. If you play a dwarf or HG, people expect you to carry the bodies around.

Haha. Excellent. I was playing a Bynner once who was out on a spider contract. Imms dropped a fucking WORLD of spiders on us, almost immediately. Just spawned like 20 of them in the room, and it ripped through fucking EVERYONE. Killed the sarge almost instantly, etc. I died too. Well, turns out one of the runners had went out after that contract and looted all the corpses. My next PC found him dead in the Ranch with a beetle PACKED full of gear, and a bag on his body with some dipshit's spice in it. (I think he got gate guarded.) I made a sweet 3k off all that shit.
One of my all time favorite bamboozles - I was playing a rinthi assassin. To get my backstab up, I would wander around southside at night offing NPCs and selling their nice clothes. Good for a couple small here and there. However, of course the militia caught on and started asking rinth rats about it. When asked, I told them I knew a guy who was at the Folley bragging about the crime and fed them the name of another PC I didn't particularly care for. Long story short, his head was worth another 50 sid. >.>

Just a note. I am practically positive that no Imm loaded the 20 spiders. Odds are, your contract lead you to SW of Allanak. Where a nest lies where a group of spiders roam. There's usually 12-14 hidden spiders and 1-4 visible, along with an occasional silt flyer. It happens very often that a person walks in on a spider and suddenly, ambushed by a fuckload of hidden spiders. This is a common death. But probably not loaded by imms.

The best money handsdown is salting. rangers and rukkians get the best forage. but of course its the most dangerous. you can get killed by a mek or a bahamet (depending on if you play in the north or in the real part of the game).

A few screens east of the northern obsidian mines along the road, kind of near/southish of the glass deposit. They was loaded bro.

Hah! I think I was that runner. I do looting after sundown near off peak time so nobody would question why I'm not in training. I got away from the spiders and laid in one of the outdoors places to rest then forgot they were trackers. I don't remember how many years ago, but Zoan was the big name AOD guy at the time. Or maybe spider contracts happen a lot and this was someone else.

Hm. Not sure, but this dude died in the ranch somewhere, not outdoors. Unless the soiders ghosted past the gate guards, which would be something. One minute enjoying booze in the Gaj, next minute ninja spiders pwn noob off barstool!

You know an RPI has turned to shit when PKing clanleads for their loot is applauded as the pinnacle of awesomeness.

You know an RPI has turned to shit when PKing clanleads for their loot is applauded as the pinnacle of awesomeness. imo it's great because it's the basics of what Arm is: backstabbing and distrust of others. This right here is pure Arm to me: On a micro level, it's the Arm slogan in a little vignette: murder, corruption, betrayal. It's how cheap life should be seen in a largely lawless world where resources are scarce and starving/dying of dehydration is a real fear. Sarge letting his guard down around a guy who hated him was a mistake that he paid with in his life. The rest of coming back and declaring guys look out there's really dangerous spiders out there is hilarious as hell and in my opinion a clever way of covering up the dirty deed The rest can be either cheesy or brilliant depending on how you view it. If it's the dwarf's focus that he's trying to get rich as fast as possible or a part of his focus and that's his personality then hey fair game. Unless their focus is supporting the group, dwarves are selfish beings that are completely driven to fulfill their focus. Part of the latitude in personality comes in deciding whether or not they're the kind of guy who will throw everyone else under the bus or instead work hard for their goal. I think it's way plausible that the kind of dwarf who signs up with a rough and tumble mercenary band would throw his own people under the bus to get what he wanted. Was it that situation or was moofassa just saying fuck it I need the lewts I can't vouch for, but that's how I took it and it's why I think it's fantastic.
