I feel like you ran into my second magicker ever, baron, though she would have only met him briefly. She's the one who set off thunder in Undertuluk when someone tried to rape her. >.< She died a quick death, needless to say.

How did Baron Taur see in the dark? He had perma-infravision thanks to my one and only special app (out of about 60 characters total). As a trade off, he was blinded in full sunlight and exceptionally agoraphobic, which were roleplaying restrictions I stuck to throughout the character's life. Adding to his RPed weakness, I rolled Poor strength, which made his combat capabilities essentially nil. And he was the only Worm/Torch that was incapable of opening that godamn slab secret door. Really, he was one pissed off Whiran away from being screwed beyond all hope. As it happened, he died puking to death after eating a black pepper while speaking to a Kuraci agent, and I fumbled in a panic and ate the incorrect cure. (he had eaten them before with no ill effect -- had an exceptionally good endurance, and I thought I had the cure situation in hand if the peppers did their awful thing.) Reading about all the vampire nilazi psionic liches that were roaming the Rinth, I don't think I think I feel so bad about having my special app approved.

I don't recall very many names -- was that the magicker that was always wearing a mask and was compatriot with that assassin dwarf? Or the really shy girl that never really interacted with the rest of us?

The really shy girl who died pretty quick. Bard/Barani walled her off behind a wall of sand and raped her, so she straight left undertuluk after trying to scare him away and -that- result. It was a shortlived if interesting character. I'm wanting to think she even had blue hair because I was newbsauce at the time.

Anytime I hear wall of sand and rape, I think of the huge albino mutant and his massive girth. Anyway, Baron sounded tight. Bad ass name too.

Yep. It actually WAS a huge albino mutant. Bard/Barani. Which would apparently appear male (looked, acted, coded) but actually had woman bits and tried to use their hands to do so. Needless to say, she did not live long after the Thunder brought soldiers into Undertuluk.

I remember Shattered well, although you may not remember me!
There was a time when I had a human sorcerer who, through a series of events, ended up in desert elf lands. She came to be under Shattered's wing as her apprentice, was taught preservation by her, and lived with Shattered and her mate at the time when they occupied the large cave in the Shield Wall.
Those were great times. I saw some things I hadn't seen prior and generally consider the period to be one of my fonder memories.

Bit of a necro but what a cool thread!
Do you have Shattered's bios or logs? Maybe a timeline? I feel if those were available you'd be doing a great service to the community!

I know what you mean by account notes. I had an atrocious one follow me around for eight years, which wasn't even accurate. Even when I had another player speak up about it, and let staff know. I just got the affirmative from them, but when I saw my account notes again, two years later, it was still there and there was no mention of the correction.
Basically, it claimed I was using OOC information, and didn't RP about what I knew. When in fact, I'd had a ton of interaction about it, over quite a long period of time. This dude just showed up, spied on us one day and assumed. There's still a residual bitterness.

Hello Shattered, Gin's player here. I think you were a wonderful player, often trying to initiate things in an otherwise stagnant game world. While people called the game dynamic, it is far from the truth unfortunately. It is almost always left up to the players to push the game and I think you did it well enough, that you involved a lot of players all around the world in your plots. It is a shame that you got punished for it, but it is not in our hands to correct what went wrong.

I'm trying to recall Catalina (Cat?) I think I might know who this is, but not 100% (and could be way off). "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely." -- Lord John Acton "Just deal with it." --Azroen The problem, really, is that you get people who are suddenly in charge and they let that power go to their heads. The folks in charge would often take the word of the immortals over the players, which is why you might get instances where someone is accused of OOC abuse, when in fact if they ever took the time to read the logs, they would be able to find a message (or something) tying it together. Who the hell is going to take that time? "Oh this guy pickpocketed this Templar because he knew he had this sword, so I"m gonna kill him for OOC knowledge and cheating" when in fact maybe that player just decided "I need a few more coins, oh holy shit a steel sword, omg". (this specific example has probably never happened, but just using it for illustrative purposes) Force killing: This is one of the things that pissed me off to the point of a story I will tell some day (but not now). I had a character who's job was to be powerful (an immortal even propped his stats up to play the role he needed to play), but I stuck to character 100% come hell or high water, I was not going to abuse that privilege, and I was super careful on what I did. I always stayed in character, because that's what I do. One day I died the most brutal and piece of shit way possible: I was led somewhere, shit was being typed, I was responding, and before I could even finish typing a reply, *bam bam bam dead*. what in the flying fucking shit? I later asked the immortal RPing with me "sorry man but I had orders that he had to die, he was getting too powerful". What in the fucking flying shit? ? If you weren't an immortal pet, your character was never safe. I don't care if I die from a player (that's fun!), or a random encounter with a Gith (also fun and part of the game), but that fucking power-play bullshit pissed me off beyond anything ever done. I have a feeling that I (as a person) must have upset someone on staff (probably a bullshit reason, too, I probably killed a player that someone on staff was screwing). IMO, unless there are *very specific reasons that should almost always never happen*, then any "force killing" should be done by another player. If an immortal thinks the job needs to be done, then they need to contact another player in the game and RP out a reason for the death, and let the player do it. The way I view it, if Sanvean can achieve Overlord (I guess they're now Producers?) because she pretends to RP while power-leveling, then we're all fucked.
