Question, likely for Anaiah. Is there a timer on land relationship increases? Or could you say, repeatedly fill a cistern and pour it out? (I imagine the preservers would more likely use large containers to sprinkle large areas, anyways.) Also, does gathering from yourself increase your relationship to the land? Doesn't seem like it would, but figured I'd ask. Gathering from yourself doesn't increase your relationship, it just doesn't decrease it the way gathering from the land does. I'm not sure, as I haven't seen the code. I can say I've been to Mantis Valley with a sorcerer pc and used the river there to fill skins to pour the water out, rping washing all the dust caked off some of the briars there. I'm not sure about timers, but I know within about 10 hours total of doing that, it changed visibly. (Note, it wasn't 10 straight hours of filling it up and pouring it out. It was just 10 hours in the area and rping that and related things over the course of a few RL days.)

Anaiah said around 1,000 waterskins, not 50 to 100. It takes a shitload of water. A shitload. It is probably closer to 100 or so initially, I may have typoed that. It is DEFINITELY more than 100 to change it from good to the next level. And there are multiple positive levels of relationship.

Is there any way for a mundane to gain magick abilities and retain them without a magicker?

Is there any way for a mundane to gain magick abilities and retain them without a magicker? If I'm not mistaken, you have to codedly be a magicker in order to regen mana. Everyone in the game starts off with mana, but mundanes don't regen. I believe it's possible for a mundane to "donate" that little bit of mana to a magickal weapon or something (might be considered abuse by staff), but once that mana's gone, it's gone. Unless you can "gather" somehow. But at that point you're just a sorcerer. Unless you're referring to "magick abilities" like infravision or "see ethereal" or whatever. In which case, I have no clue. Doubt it though.

I'm pretty sure that in canon Dark Suns, for example, anyone with enough time and dedicated practice could strengthen their psionic ability and turn it into a weapon. Psionic karate, anyone?

There is apparently an item that will grant you sorcerer powers, but it's now in an inaccessible part of Tuluk or something.

Actually, it does. It allows you to use permanent magicker weapons and shields. Because once the mana in them has been used up, they 'wither' aka become inert, until you donate more mana. As to actual spells? Yeah, there's only one way. The head of Muk Utep's father. That is no longer in an IC part of the game world to be stumbled onto. It's in the DB, but it was removed from where anyone could access it after a PC Jihaen managed to get it to teach them spells without any previous approval (to hear Senga tell it, when she told me to move it).

Where would one acquire these magicker weapons? Murder a magicker? If the magicker has one of these that's probably not going to be an easy task. You'd have a much easier and more likely time getting one if you befriended them than killed them. Also, it should be noted, there was another post recently about someone being docked all their karma for looting one of them from a dead magicker's body, so it might save that, too.

There is a 'lot' more to that incident then just looting a corpse. But not worth a discussion.
Kill the gickers! They say that if you the magickal item is pulled from the dead gicker's hands, it's twice as powerful. KILL THEM ALL!

Yeah, but that weapon won't do shit for you without mana to donate to it. So enjoy dying for a useless piece of crap unless you have the ability to gather, which in and of itself, is the sorcery part, and thus makes you more hated than a magicker. *salutes*
