Massive rolecall for: Anyone interested in playing EoE, minus much of the things being lamented about it. As far as I can tell, EoE is not Armageddon. And, through what I know of them, I actually like the staff as people. Unfortunately, not being ON staff gives me absolute no ability whatsoever to judge them AS staff. A lot of my grief regarding EoE comes from expectation, as in: I expect this is what's happening, I expect there is code abuse going on, I expect that some people get special treatment. But I've no proof, and I don't like accusing people without a shred of evidence. Instead, I'm going to follow the rules, and play EoE. Please, contact me for role ideas. Here are the rules we are not allowed to break: You must be 18 years of age to play EoE. In making a character, you are stating that you are at least 18 years of age. No more than one character per player. Stay in character at all times (ooc should be used very sparingly). If you're link dead and you die, you stay dead. Don't use out of character knowledge in the game. Don't abuse the mud code. Maturity is appreciated. If you've ever played on another mud, you and I both realize how little this restricts someone from being anything but a cheater. Please, help me change some things IG. Message me here, at Hideousfingchud@yahoo.com, or on EOE DB as Bagels. I'm not looking for greatness. I'm hoping to create it.

Not enough interest, on any of the forums I've posted this on. Oh well. Roles closed, membership still open.

Yep. I'm personally on a break until Sunday, but only because I wrote my pc into a (literal) corner until then.

Just created a character not too long ago on EOE. Spent an hour and a half walking between the walls of the city. Impressive, and sort of intimidating for a MUD that seems to commonly only house some odd 10-15 players probably? With the absolute high being from what I can tell mid-forties? Still though, I haven't done much of anything, and I've got ARM level paranoia going on that something's out to kill me. Maybe it's bad that ARM was/is my first MUD and now I'm permanently going to be looking over my shoulder for a 'rinthi breed stealing my things, or a psychotic half-giant with the mind of a vindictive child standing over an ant mound with a magnifying glass. Maybe these experiences have already ruined me for EOE...or maybe they've just been preparing me. Dunno yet. I do know that I feel more awkward than ever trying to adjust to how they emote. I'm still trying to learn how to do some of the more basic functions of ARM, but overall EOE seems to have potential. I haven't even explored out of the city though (and probably shouldn't from what I hear...yet) so I can't say for sure how things are going to turn out on that end. Tens of thousands of rooms in just about any direction I hear? That's certainly different from my two hour old ranger going from Allanak to Tuluk through the Pah.

Yeah, it's pretty huge. Initially New Kaiden was smaller, but a lot of stuff players have made has gone in since then, and in order to make more of the buildings actual and less of them virtual, expanding the city was a bit necessary. (I was the one who suggested roses and moonflowers on Talun Way before the rebuild, and blammo! still love that) Outside the city, the main things to worry about relatively close to it, are deer and bears. Further away, things get more dangerous/deadly/exotic, but you pretty much need to be a weaponmaster to take out a bear and not die if you're alone, so... I haven't really wandered further. The slums is a lot like the rinth when it comes to killing. If you're an Enclave member, or clanned at all with something not in the slums, or if you even have something remotely expensive on... just don't go there unless you want to die. It's a bad idea. You will get dead. The main part of the city alternates between pretty safe and dangerous as shit, depending on the strength/presence/activity/whim of both the criminal element and the police element at the time. With regards to the emote code, other than item targeting or odd quirks in speech (ie, can't use possessive in speech, and in speech, item targeting shifts from / to ~), the emote symbols and stuff are a pretty close match for Arm's, so it's not too difficult to carry that over for your tenses/forms when emoting. The game world itself is pretty much damn enormous though. I remember going from Tow to Shae in I think 2010 or so, and it requiring a boat, and about 3 rl hours. And both of those settlements are in elf lands. That's leaving out any other part of the world. The place is heaven for explorers, if you can get around unseen, because it's just frickin' huge. With regards to the staff itself... it's small. A husband and wife, and not sure how claint knows them, but he's their coder. Seems like Alaire does much of the building, and Jazet runs most of the storylines for people/rpts/etc, and Claint mostly codes. All of them are pretty great. You can butt heads with them periodically, and I have, more than once, with Jazet, but it won't be a black stain on you forever, and things can go back to being civil after it, like with logical, agreeable people.

The way it echoes emotes is part of what's confusing to me. I'm waiting to get approved for their forums so I can check some of the documentation. As far as the emotes go though, in game, I'm trying to creep off to a corner to play around with it, and part of the problem for me is the whole 'what you see' vs 'what they see'. I always understood that with ARM certain statements when read from your side of the screen would have strange pronouns that don't read right, but I can see the way it goes out and thus get an idea how to form my emotes to fit within the way it displays them. It's the lack of a third person look at myself echoing back at me that's throwing me for a loop, I think.
Example: ARM :leans back, threading his fingers together across his stomach, and grins. -becomes: The thin, hook-nosed man leans back, threading his fingers together across his stomach, and grins. (and it shows me this is how it's seen, in third person)
Whereas in EOE: emote leans back, threading his fingers together across his stomach, and grins. I can't say for certain this shows right. I think it does. But to me it just shows... You leans back, threading his fingers together across his stomach, and grins.
Maybe I've just grown too used to the way ARM displays these things. It's these tiny quirks that I'm trying to figure out. If that makes any sense. I adapted to ARM after a bit. Maybe after a bit of adjusting I'll get it down here too.

You'd want to do that: emote leans back, threading his fingers together across his stomach, and grins. That's pretty correct. The main thing that throws me about it is that I can't pemote when my sdesc is at the beginning of a sentence. So I have to: emote My eyes scan the room. The short, plump brunette's eyes scan the room. emote eyes scan the room wouldn't be possessive. Heh. It's different if you want to put the 'I' or 'my' somewhere else in the emote. It's when I have to put 'my' at the beginning of it to make it possessive that gets me. Arm was my first mud too. I'll try and help where I can if you want to PM me about anything. I don't know if you've registered on the forums there, but it's a good idea, as a lot of human documentation is up to be read that's not yet on the site, since the documentation is being built around the players and based on player actions and choices. Like Sundown and Avasar used to be written as being at odds in addition to Sundown and Kaden, but after a pc of mine who really liked the Avasar and had an Avasar mother but is a Sundown was approved and lasted a while, the part about animosities with Avasar was removed to reflect that kind of closeness that players wanted to work toward.

Yep. I registered. It's kind of hilarious really. I submitted the character for approval, and was approved before I could even log out, and yet tried to get on the forums, and I've waited hours now. I suppose they're more stringent there? I don't know. I really need to be approved to read their forums before I do anything. It's hard to do anything without knowing a lot of the facts about the world. I don't know the city, I don't know the general area, I don't even know any of the real sovereign powers, and I need to know these things for everything as small as simple 'thinks' or where my character's background fits into his story. Honestly, this one doesn't have a background. Figured I'd make it up on the fly. There's always a bit of flavor when I do it that way, and since I figure he'll die pretty quick...to something or another(again, ARM tendencies) I'm not terribly convinced to waste hours building his habits and such quite yet.
I'm hoping to find something nice in EOE, that I didn't really find in ARM. Even if some of it seems a bit less refined, I don't count on it always being that way, and though I can't say that I've had many interactions with ARM staff, I'm very much inclined to believe most of the statements about their attitude made on here. And a lot of the limitation of the game is kind of bothering me. EOE is entertaining for now. Hopefully, I'll figure this out a bit more. I might take you up on that PM offer though.

I haven't been playing long, maybe three months. But, staff have been receptive to the things I've asked for and about, and there's no lacking in good rp. Mind you, I'm no cheerleader, but I'm also not pissed off about being passed over as head cheerleader. You don't have to be the head cheerleader to make an impact or have fun.

I don't play MUDS for highschool-esque cheerleader social roleplay. That's just the difference between me and you, bud.
