www.harshlands.net/default.aspxHarshlands. Sure some have heard of it/played it, while others havent. I wanted to invite anyone willing to come take a look, read up on the docs and try it. The playerbase is small, (5-15 players on average) which is why I wanted to see if we could find more players. The staff are awesome, and completely helpful. They are not dicks, and understand things from a player-point of view, imo. The players are also extremely helpful, and the whole game-world has the potential to be something great, already be extremely fun. If any of you take a look, and decide to try it, and make an Ivinian? Msg me via this site for my email, and join my clan (which needs players to become a greatclan heh)

I'll look into it. Always nice to see a game without power hungry admins who actively try to alienate their playerbase

Kaldor, is mostly run by the playerbase. Geldeheim, is mostly run by staff, because fewer pc's play there. It's harder to survive, theres less pc's. Alot of solo-rp, (due to lack of pcs) It's basically pc's versus vnpcs. Alot of rpts, and I love it. Jarlak (my clan) has been trying to recruit players, to really create an Ivinian warclan (who basically raids, pillages, etc etc) It's a viking society up north, while down south, it's more medieval, tc etc. Very cool stuff.

The crafts systems seems very in-depth (at least from what I could see on the website). I'm intrigued although I think the site could do with some fleshing out on theme.

I agree. Message me via these boards if you want to talk about it over Aim. I'm totally down to help, and chit-chat on how to play/improve the mud.

I've started playing this mud after a couple of hiatus years and am pleased to say its been like a breath of fresh air.
Came back to a few changes and a larger playerbase, which certainly is cool.
Staff and the forums are quite active and very helpful, definitely a feeling of community.
Best thing IMO with Harshlands is that there is -ALWAYS- something to do. While not all will agree I'm sure, I really like things like the city errands lists, income tokens, etc where characters can have an income and tasks to complete no matter their playtimes, social standing, role type, ect.
The amount of automation is really cool. You don't need staff help to set up a farm for example. Staff has set up crafts to pretty much take care of most things that might require staff assistance, and it also provides standardization...everyone uses the same crafts, gets the same results. No favouritism, ect.
I don't know much about Harn, but I dig the sort of medieval theme and the cultures IG. Learning more as I get back into the game, and the website has tonnes of information to cull for information.
Game world is quite large and takes a little while to learn your way around, but once grasped it's no biggie.
If you're a DIKU style RPI player, this is definitely a game to check out.

Tell all your friends. Haha.
Super impressed with HL.
Mechanics, players, staff. The whole lot.
Trying to learn more about the setting. Having spent like 13 years a Tolkien freak hasnt left much room for more lore..but Im trying to cram it in there.
I really should have given this game a better shot all those years ago.
If you're interested in playing, Id follow the advice of starting in Tashal City as there seems to be a lot of players there.

I'm currently waiting for my app to be approved, but I've decided to give the game a shot, so that's at least one other person hopping in.

The number of grammatical errors on their website and the fact it shows lists of how many PCs are actively in specific IC clans at any time is a major turnoff for me.
It might be a great game for some people, but after reviewing their site I can't get past things like that unfortunately.

That's too bad. Seems like you're a pretty respected player in the RPI text-based genre.
I'm always a little surprised when people are turned off of games due to a website, but given that its a text-based game I guess it only makes sense one would get turned off by grammar. I've just found pretty much every mud website lacking (take a look at SOI's for example) and never really let it bother me so long as the IG play was good.
While I -think- the purpose of showing active players in specific clans is to help people determine where they would like to try fleshing out the gameworld by creating a pc in an empty area, or to join a clan that is active instead of getting IG to find out you're the only person round, ultimately I don't know and was kind of surprised to see that myself.

Faroukel got it in one. Given the scant player base of most muds these days the profession chart goes a long way for balancing things out. What use is a third weaponsmith in a town right?
Though I have to disagree with him on start locations. If you want mudsex and boredom Tashal is a great place to start. If you want at least a small modicum of tension and excitement Trobridge is where it's at. Kaldor military on side. Thardic legion on the other. Legal dark faith sprinkled liberally through out. Oh and more mudsex and boredom.
(Hi Faroukel, been awhile. Shame SOI went down the shitter)
