What I'm arguing is that there's not any valid reason to suddenly be worried that every single person in game is going to be killing you with a rageboner made of magick. People had perfectly good rageboners without magick
Necroing the thread: Does anyone know if using an archery dummy actually improves archery with misses?
Not positive, but my guess is that you can. I know I've ground out throw, kick, and bash on dummies. For non-passive combat skills like that, dummies are by far the best way to raise your skills because you will crit fail / get reversed every. single. time.
Practicing against a live sparring partner? Ineffective. Call me in 20 days, n00b.
Practicing against an immobile dummy that my 95 year old grandmother could school? Basically the blooper reel at the end of a Jackie Chan movie. You'll be a stud in no time.
Next time just google "Armageddon MUD" and click the first link.
The best thing about this is that it's true.
One experiment I've always wanted to run in Arm was a priority wis Warrior. I know I've seen elves come into the Byn with their low str and high wis and agility, and by the end of their runner year they were kicking the shit out of the Veteran troopers by dint of actually being able to skill up. Has anybody tried something like that? I'm sure you'll never be one of those epic top 10 (we had to raise it from top 3 to top 10 because everyone has the life span of a sorceror king these days) warriors, but it could be a fun experiment. Maybe everyone can boggle at your advanced weapon skills.

About a year ago I had a character who never used kick or bash in sparring and only did it vs the training dummy, and I notched the skillz up to Jman. I think I've done throwing vs dummy before and found it to work, but I honestly can't recall the character, so I'm not positive about that one.
I once got chewed out for using them on a dummy by an animated NPC, I got in trouble because my elf was determined to knock that dummy down someday, and one day, he did... the slaves were all angry with him, as was the Kuracci Sergeant that showed up. Needless to say, I never bashed a dummy after that.
"grumble is actually a psychotic 40+ something weirdo who lives off the government doll and does nothing but play armageddon all day every day. he has no aspirations, he has no real meaning in his life. only armageddon, getting drunk, and having bizarre pseudo-relationships with the people who play with his characters, of which there is no line between reality and fiction. he exclusively plays elves. i cant make this stuff up." -topkekm8s
sneazy: Started playing with ArmSolo again. Mapping the zones against newer maps and chasm area mostly looks good. If anyone else is using it, I will make a thread and post results. Else, I'll keep doing my own thang.

mehtastic: Hi everyone. Back for a bit to catch up on how things have been and talk about Arm with a less angry and more mellow voice. Hope y'all have been doing well.

mehtastic: Haha. We actually agree more than we disagree, but I'm down to discuss the benefits and drawbacks of multiplaying in general.

thesandlady: Are the days of 250 unique logins a week long gone, or is there a chance Arm could get back to it's old numbers?
Jul 12, 2019 13:05:29 GMT -5
mehtastic: thesandlady I think those days are long gone at this point. People will say it's because MUDs in general are on the decline, but there are a few text based games that see slight growth. Arm's problems hold it back from player recruitment and retention.
Jul 13, 2019 13:23:07 GMT -5
delerak: arm can get the numbers back up. you need good leaders running clans for one which it seems arm is lacking right now.
Jul 24, 2019 11:52:44 GMT -5
mehtastic: Well, that's partly why I said Armageddon can't get back the 250+ weekly logins days that it used to have: because Armageddon lacks good leaders. I would argue that staff actively suppress leadership and don't give players ways to grow into such roles.

dunebum: Armageddon needs strong storytellers aka Dungeon Masters. Without them breathing life into the world and not just responding to fucking character reports, the game is static and boring. Player led storylines suck ass.
Aug 21, 2019 22:16:51 GMT -5
dunebum: Would you want to play a game of D&D where the Dungeon Master sat back and let the players do all the work? Fuck no. The admins have forgotten the face of their fathers.
